Agraform Effluent Pond

One biological treatment for the effluent problems that pile up on farm

Agraform Effluent Pond uses a selected blend of naturally occurring microbes to break down solids, ease odour and reduce nutrient load right across your effluent system — so it keeps working when you’re flat out and can least afford a problem.

The Problem

Effluent problems rarely
stay in one place

Solids settle and build up forming crusts, or odour drifts toward the neighbours. Nutrient load climbs — and it usually gets worse right when the system is under the most pressure, through calving, peak milk, or a wet stretch when ponds are already near capacity.

By the time you notice, you’re often looking at extra stirring, extra pumping, an unplanned desludge, or a hard conversation with the regional council.

Most products only tackle one part of that — sludge, or odour, or ammonia. So you end up managing several issues, and several inputs, across one system that’s all connected.

Solids settle and crust over

Sludge builds faster than it breaks down, shortening your desludge cycle and adding cost.

Odour reaches the neighbours

The sulphur compounds in decomposing effluent travel further than you’d like — especially in still weather.

Nutrient load hits consent limits

Rising nitrogen and phosphorus levels put your discharge consent under pressure at the worst possible times.

Problems stack up during peak season

Calving and peak milk push volume into a system that’s already stretched. One thing going wrong leads to another.

WHAT IS IT?

One product that helps manage several common effluent problems

Agraforum Effluent Pond is a biological treatment for farm wastewater and effluent. It works by boosting the natural microbes that break down waste. It’s the same kind of process that’s already happening in your pond, just made more active and more consistent.

That one product helps you manage:

Solids and sludge build-up

Odour

Nutrient load (nitrogen and phosphorus)

Fats, oils and grease (FOG)

Overall effluent quality

Dosing is simple

How it works

It helps your operation do its own job better

Effluent breaks down naturally because of the microbes already living in it. The catch is that those microbes aren’t always present in the right numbers, or active in the right places — particularly down in the sludge where there’s little oxygen, or when conditions swing with the weather and the season.

Agraforum Effluent Pond adds a concentrated, hard-working mix of microbes that keep breaking material down across the whole system. That includes the aerated surface, the low-oxygen sludge layer, and everywhere in between.

This is where Agraforum Effluent Pond is different. A lot of treatments only work where there’s plenty
of oxygen. This one keeps going in the parts of the system that usually get neglected.

We recommend a simple staged plan.

1. A stronger dose to get things established

2. Followed by a lower maintenance dose to keep it ticking over

1. Then we tailor that to your system rather than handing you a one-size number

What it helps you manage

What that means day to day

Less sludge to deal with

Active breakdown of solids means slower sludge build-up — and that can push out how often you need to clear out sludge.

Better odour control

By targeting the sulphur compounds behind that rotten-egg smell, it helps keep control odour. Ideal if your pond is near the dairy, the neighbours or the road. This is where people first notice the difference.

Lower nutrient load

It supports the natural breakdown of nitrogen and reduces phosphorus, which helps with effluent quality and consent-to-discharge pressure.

Cleaner discharge numbers

It helps bring down COD, BOD and TSS — the standard measures of how much material is still in the water. Lower numbers mean cleaner effluent and a stronger compliance position.

COD, BOD and TSS are the common ways effluent quality gets measured. In short: the lower they are, the cleaner the water and the better your compliance position. Happy to explain how these apply to your consent.

Where Agraforum Effluent Pond fits

Built for real farm yards

No specialist equipment and no changes to your system. Dispenses straight into the pond or into the cow shed infrastructure that drains to it.

Effluent ponds, sumps, stone traps, feed pads and washdown wastewater. Helps manage the solids, odour and nutrient load that build up through the season and keeps the system performing when it’s under the most pressure.

Why you can trust it

We'd rather show you than tell you

Farmers are right to be skeptical so here’s how we back it up:

A well-understood biological process

Not a one-off chemical fix. Agraforum Effluent Pond works with the same microbial process that’s already in your pond — it just makes it more active and more consistent.

Non-toxic, biodegradable and safe to handle

Under normal use, no special PPE, no dangerous goods paperwork. Standard good hygiene practice is enough.

We talk through your system first

Before we recommend anything, we understand your setup — pond size, season, what problems you’re seeing. The dose gets set to suit how you operate.

No miracle claims

Just a clear explanation of what it does and proof of what it’s done. Farmers are right to be skeptical, so we back it up with data, not promises.

Safety & handling

Simple and safe to work with

Agraforum Effluent Pond Isn’t classified as hazardous or as a dangerous good for transport. It’s biodegradable and safe to handle under normal procedures: store it in a cool, dry spot out of direct sunlight and keep the container closed. No special handling for everyday use; standard good hygiene practice is enough.

FAQ

Common questions

The staged approach is built to get on top of an established build-up first, then hold it there.

No major changes. It’s added to your existing system. We set the dosing to suit how you operate.

It’s non-toxic, non-hazardous and biodegradable. As with anything, keep it stored sensibly and away from feed, but it doesn’t need special PPE for normal handling.

Most operators notice odour easing first, within the first week or two. Improvements in solids and effluent quality build over the following weeks. We’ll set realistic expectations for your system.

It depends on your system size and the state it’s in. Get in touch and we’ll work out a plan for your situation.

It goes by herd size. Under 700 cows: one 50g tablet every second day. 700–1,000 cows: one tablet daily. Over 1,000 cows: two tablets daily. It’s on the label too.
